About the Writer & Apron Curator: EllynAnne Geisel
During her 24 years as a full-time homemaker, EllynAnne Geisel never wore an apron. That changed in 1999, when she purchased an apron to inspire her while writing an article about the old-fashioned symbol for mothering. Since tying on domestic armor seven years ago, EllynAnne has gathered over 400 aprons from all over America and listened to as many apron memories.
She is the author of THE APRON BOOK: Making, Wearing and Sharing a Bit of Cloth and Comfort, Foreword by Ellen Levine, Editor in Chief, Good Housekeeping (Andrews McMeel Publishing, October 2006).

EllynAnne’s passion for aprons can also be seen through her inventive vintage designs for her company Apron Memories®. Her collection of aprons has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Frontier Airlines in-flight magazine, Country Living and Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion (Spring 2007). Her aprons have been worn by Bree Van De Kamp of Desperate Housewives, and were selected by ABC Televsion for its on-line retail store.
An essayist and member of the historic Denver Woman’s Press Club, her vignette on the book that influenced her life appears in Jack Canfield and Gay Hendricks’ You’ve GOT to Read this Book! 55 People Tell the Story of the Book That Changed Their Life (HarperCollins, Aug. 2006).
McGraw Hill, publisher of Chases Calendar of Events, accepted EllynAnne's submission, "Tie One On" Day, which will annually be recognized on the 4th Wednesday of November. The designated day celebrates the humble apron and the spirit of women of earlier generations who donned the universal symbol of home, family and mothering as the uniform of their daily wardrobe and helped make America the great country it is today.
